Minor League Schedule: Casey Sadler and Adrian Sampson Go Tonight

Eight games on the schedule today, with two of the better starters from this season, taking their turn on the mound. Adrian Sampson goes for Altoona, while Casey Sadler gets the road start for Indianapolis.  Check out the Prospect Watch from last night. AAA: Indianapolis (46-34) @ Durham (45-37) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Casey Sadler (7-1, 2.34)
Yesterday’s Result: Durham 8, Indianapolis 2

Casey Sadler will make his 11th start for Indianapolis tonight. He has also pitched four times in relief for the Pirates. For Indianapolis, Sadler has thrown 61.2 innings, allowing 50 hits, five homers and 13 walks. He has 40 strikeouts, a 1.71 GO/AO ratio and a .227 BAA. In his last start, he allowed one run on two hits and one walk in six innings. Sadler has pitched seven times on the road this year, posting a 2.35 ERA.

AA: Altoona (29-49) vs Binghamton (45-33) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Adrian Sampson (5-4, 2.39)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 3, Binghamton 1

Adrian Sampson will make his 16th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 86.2 innings, allowing 73 hits, five homers and 19 walks. He has 65 strikeouts, a 1.02 GO/AO ratio and a .230 BAA. In his last start, Sampson went seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. He has faced Binghamton twice this year, surrendering four runs on ten hits, with 13 strikeouts in 13 innings.  Sampson has a 1.55 ERA at home, 3.13 on the road.

High-A: Bradenton (41-36, 6-2 2nd half) vs Jupiter (27-49) 6:30pm
Probable starter: John Kuchno (3-7, 3.94)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 6, Jupiter 4

John Kuchno will make his 16th start of the season tonight. He has pitched 77.2 innings, allowing 73 hits, two homers and 35 walks. He has 42 strikeouts, an impressive 2.70 GO/AO ratio and a .253 BAA. In his last start, Kuchno gave up six runs over seven innings. It was the fourth time in his last five starts that he went seven innings. He has pitched better at home, posting a 2.93 ERA at McKechnie Field, while his road ERA is 4.60 in nine starts.

Low-A: West Virginia (26-50, 5-2 2nd half) vs Lakewood (28-49) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Shane Carle (1-5, 3.73)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 8, Delmarva 7

Shane Carle will make his 13th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched three times in relief. Carle has thrown a total of 72.1 innings, allowing 88 hits, six homers and just seven walks. He has 41 strikeouts, a 1.98 GO/AO ratio and a .303 BAA. In his last start, which was against Lakewood, Carle went six innings, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk. He also faced Lakewood on 5/25, giving up one run over seven innings.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (6-8) @ Mahoning Valley (5-9) 7:05pm
Probable Starter: Austin Coley (0-1, 13.50)

Austin Coley will make his third start since being drafted in the eighth round this year. Coley faced Williamsport in each of his first two starts, giving up six runs over 1.2 innings the first time, then following that up with one run over three innings.

Probable Starter: Nick Hutchings (0-0, 10.12)
Yesterday’s Result: Phillies 6, Pirates 2

Nick Hutchings will make his second start of the season today. He went 2.2 innings in his first outing, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks, while picking up two strikeouts. That start was the pro debut for the 18-year-old righty from Australia. Check out the GCL Pirates season preview.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
