Minor League Schedule: Nick Kingham Gets His First Start Since the All-Star Break

Probable starter: Nick Kingham (3-1, 1.62)
Yesterday’s Result: Columbus 5, Indianapolis 4

Nick Kingham will make seventh start for Indianapolis tonight. Between Indianapolis and Altoona, he has thrown a total of 110 innings, giving up 98 hits, three homers and 31 walks. Kingham has 84 strikeouts, a 1.10 GO/AO ratio and a .238 BAA. He threw six shutout innings in his last start, giving up just two hits. Kingham has gone at least six innings in each of his last 11 starts. He is two strikeouts behind both Adrian Sampson and Tyler Glasnow for the Pirates minor league lead.

AA: Altoona (38-62) vs Bowie (51-48) 6:00pm
Probable starter: Jhonathan Ramos (2-3, 5.27)

Jhonathan Ramos will make his first start for Altoona tonight. He has pitched 23 games in relief for the Curve. Ramos has also made six relief appearances and one start for Indianapolis. He has thrown a total of 40 innings, allowing 42 hits, eight homers and 12 walks. He has 28 strikeouts, an 0.92 GO/AO ratio and a .263 BAA.  In his only start this year, Ramos went five innings, giving up two runs.

High-A: Bradenton (49-44, 14-10 2nd half) vs Clearwater (28-67) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Chad Kuhl (9-5, 3.45)
Yesterday’s Result: Clearwater 7, Bradenton 2 

Chad Kuhl will get his 20th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 104.1 innings, allowing 93 hits, six homers and 23 walks. He has 74 strikeouts, a 1.78 GO/AO ratio and a .242 BAA. In his last start, Kuhl went one inning before the game was suspended due to rain. He faced Clearwater on 6/3 and gave up one run over six innings, striking out a career-high eight batters.

Low-A: West Virginia (34-63, 14-15 2nd half) vs Rome (32-66) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Dovydas Neverauskas (4-8, 5.60)
Yesterday’s Result:   West Virginia 9, Rome 8

Dovydas Neverauskas will make his 19th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 82 innings, surrendering 101 hits, eight homers and 36 walks. He has 52 strikeouts, an 0.96 GO/AO ratio and a .307 BAA. In his last start, Neverauskas gave up four runs on seven hits and a walk. In 12 home starts this year, he has a 7.16 ERA in 49 innings. He has a .308 BAA against lefties and right-handed batters are hitting .306 with two homers.

Alex McRae will make his seventh start of the season. He has pitched 25.1 innings, allowing 22 hits, one homer and five walks. He has 15 strikeouts, a 1.00 GO/AO ratio and a .220 BAA. In his last start, McRae went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He didn’t walk anyone and allowed his first homer.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
