Talking Pirates Minor League Spring Training With David Todd and Ken Laird

This week saw the start of minor league camp over at Pirate City, which means I’ve been busy going back and forth from McKechnie, and have had a lot of minor league coverage in the first few days. I had two radio interviews today, with both discussing the prospects in the system.

My interview with David Todd focused on today’s article on the changes Austin Meadows is making, plus the shape Luis Heredia is in, and what to expect from JaCoby Jones, among other things. The interview can be heard below.

I was also on Trib Live Radio with Ken Laird this afternoon, also discussing the minor leaguers. Ken had a copy of the 2015 Prospect Guide, and decided to quiz me on a few players to see my knowledge of the system off the top of my head. We discussed my article on Connor Joe, along with the expectations for guys like Tony Sanchez and Stetson Allie, who are both currently in big league camp. Here is that interview.

Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
