I had my weekly radio segment with David Todd today on 970 ESPN, and this time around we did an extra long segment since there was so much to discuss. The big thing we talked about was whether Jameson Taillon could be ready to join the Pirates this season. I discussed why I felt Taillon doesn’t need much work in Indianapolis, and why David’s idea that he could be the “trade deadline addition” makes sense. We also compared Taillon to Gerrit Cole, both coming up through the minors, and with potential upside. There are also a few pitchers in Triple-A, such as Adrian Sampson, Casey Sadler, and Clayton Richard, who could bridge the gap until Taillon is ready.
We also discussed Yeudy Garcia, who was our Pitcher of the Month last month, and carried the strong result over today with five shutout innings. In part two of the interview, we talked about Harold Ramirez and Barrett Barnes, who have both been fantastic in Bradenton. Finally, we discussed the upcoming draft, and what trends the Pirates have shown in their drafting the last few years. Both segments can be heard below.
