Andrew McCutchen Removed after Pitch to Elbow

Andrew McCutchen was removed in the first inning of the Pirates game against the Atlanta Braves Saturday after he was by a pitch from right-hander Julio Teheran. A 91 mph fastball rode up and in to hit McCutchen on the back of his left elbow as McCutchen attempted to turn away from the pitch.

The Pirates announced X-rays were negative on his elbow. McCutchen will receive treatment today and be re-evaluated tomorrow.

McCutchen was hit for the eighth time this season, the fourth-most of any National League player. He also was hit by Williams Perez in the fifth inning Friday.

Just wondering if you were OK with the Braves drilling Cutch in Atl because Cole drilled Freeman? Just wondering.

Robert W

No we were not ok with that as Cutch was hit for the 2nd time in the series.

Good news on the x-ray and good job by morton throwing at simmons about the only way to stop other teams from taking liberties is to hit them back. Also impressed with the way the bats came to life after cutch was hit, now if they could only sustain that hitting approach and not go back to the homerun swing on every pitch approach.

Anyone else surprised Charlie could actually hit an ankle on purpose?
