Minor Moves: Trevor Williams to the DL, Jhondaniel Medina Promoted to Indianapolis

Published:

The Indianapolis Indians added more depth to their bullpen today by adding Jhondaniel Medina from Altoona to the mix. Trevor Williams was placed on the 7-day disabled list to make room for the move (retroactive to 4-14).

Indianapolis has been short on bullpen help of late with the recent promotions of A.J. Schugel and Rob Scahill to the majors. They just added John Kuchno to the bullpen from Altoona, and he has yet to pitch from the Indians.

Medina has pitched five innings for Altoona so far this season, making three appearances and only allowing one earned run. He has walked five hitters so far, but three of those came in his first appearance on April 8th when we walked and struck out three apiece. Medina moved into the closer role for Altoona in the second half of 2015, and he collected 12 saves with a 2.76 ERA. He was eligible for the Rule 5 Draft over the winter, yet he was not selected.

Ryan Palencer reported that there was nothing structurally wrong with Williams after he left his first start of the year after throwing only nine pitches. Tim Williams reported on Wednesday that he was currently throwing from flat ground and is day-to-day.

A corresponding move has yet to be announced by Altoona.
