Pirates Activate Jung-ho Kang From Disabled List

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially activated Jung-ho Kang from the disabled list in time for tonight’s game against the St Louis Cardinals. As mentioned here Wednesday night, Jason Rogers was optioned to Indianapolis in advance of this move. Tim Williams took a look earlier today at how Kang’s presence on the roster will impact the team. He is in the lineup tonight at third base, batting sixth.

While on rehab, Kang went 6-for-40 at the plate, though he did look better at the end of his rehab. His defense was solid the whole rehab stint, but he looked a little rusty at the plate upon first arrival in Indianapolis. He struck out six times in his first four games, then just three times over the last nine games. Not only was he making more contact, he was making some solid contact, he just wasn’t getting the hits to fall.

To make room for Rogers on the Indianapolis roster, Mel Rojas Jr. was assigned to Extended Spring Training.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
