Pirates Recall Josh Bell, Tyler Glasnow Optioned to Indianapolis

Published:

It appears that Josh Bell will be getting called up to the majors for tonight’s game, as his former trainer was congratulating him on Twitter this morning.

Nothing has been announced by the Pirates, but we noted last night that Bell was removed early from Thursday night’s game without anything happening that would have caused him to leave. Bell leads the International League with a .942 OPS, .535 slugging percentage, 101 hits and 167 total bases. He ranks in the top ten in doubles, triples, homers, average, runs scored, walks and OBP. Stay tuned for more on this possible news.

UPDATE: Jon Heyman is reporting the Pirates called him up, so expect an official announcement shortly.

UPDATE 3:15 PM: The move has been made official. Josh Bell has been recalled and Tyler Glasnow was optioned to Indianapolis. The move doesn’t necessarily mean anything for Glasnow, as he can be up again (10 day waiting period) before the Pirates go through their rotation one full time after the All-Star break.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
