Pirates Place Jung Ho Kang on the DL, Recall Josh Bell

PITTSBURGH — Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang is expected to go on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury, according to a team source.

Kang injured himself sliding awkwardly into second base against the Marlins in the seventh inning Friday night. He finished the game, but had his shoulder wrapped afterward and did not take batting practice on Saturday.

In the following half inning, he made a fielding and throwing error on the same play, which contributing to the Marlins tying the game.

The corresponding move has not been announced, but Josh Bell is not in the lineup for Triple-A Indianapolis in their game at Louisville. Jason Rogers also isn’t in the lineup, although Alen Hanson, Max Moroff, and Willy Garcia are currently listed as starters.

UPDATE 5:31 PM: The Pirates have made it official, saying that Kang is expected to go on the DL, and that Josh Bell will be recalled. The move isn’t official yet, but the press release said Bell is expected to be active for tonight’s game. Kang is expected to be out for two to four weeks.

  • Cutch clearly isn’t the n the game either – at least at home – what would you do with him?

  • Osuna deserved the call Up!

    • Osuna probably can’t be called up because he’s one of the PTBNL. Of course I’m only halfway kidding.

They should have sat Kang down awhile ago. I know he is just heating up at the plate, but he clearly isn’t in the game. Hope they can get his legal situation figured out one way or another sooner than later (For many reasons)

  • Bell can have someone pack all of his stuff and send it
to Pittsburgh. He won’t be going back to Indy.

  • Now that Kang isn’t playing, the Cubs will allow the “investigation” to end

  • Bell’s numbers since being sent down:
    23 for 109, 16 BB, 19 K, 1 HR

    • Agree. This might not be the same Bell with the 1.000/1.000/2.500 slash line.

I think it was on this site that they said he is working on a hole in his swing. Let’s see if it gets exploited.

      • It was actually Matt Gajtka over at DK’s site. Stated that a scout said Bell “can’t get to the fastball inside, from either side.”

  • Could have provided Kang with the necessary *rest* (both physically and mentally) earlier.

    • He was just starting to hit again, so no as to this line thought. But looking forward to Bell getting some starts at first. Or will it be Jaso, Rodriguez then Bell as far as the new 1B depth chart?

  • Bummer re Kang. Not the way i wanted but Josh Bell!
