Jung Ho Kang has been named the National League Player of the Week for September 5-11. The third baseman returned from the disabled list last week, and went 12-for-23 with four homers.
That’s a good thing to see from Kang, who was struggling since the middle of June with a .203/.298/.368 line and five homers in 151 plate appearances before going on the disabled list. He missed time with a left shoulder injury, and appears to be back to his old hitting self. When Kang is on his game, he’s an impact hitter, which is what we saw last week.
Kang is the first Pirate to win a Player of the Week award since Andrew McCutchen on the week of August 10th in 2015. This is also Kang’s first such award.
