The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated third baseman from the 15-day disabled list and he is active for Monday’s game. Kang played three rehab games for Indianapolis, where he went 1-for-8 with a home run and three walks. Kang went on the disabled list on August 20th due to a left shoulder injury.

  1. There are a lot of reasons for the Pirates lackluster performance this year, but McCutchen is easily the worst number three hitter in baseball. It’s a good thing Hurdle values run scoring and the importance of the 3 hitter, in contributing to run scoring so low. This way he doesn’t have to worry about replacing Cutch in the 3 hole, because it is such an unimportant position, cutch just did his job again by grounding into a double play.

    • Those GIDP seem to be high this season, but I don’t think he’s worse this year than other years. Just everything on the bad side gets magnified this year.
