Pirates Release 2017 Spring Training Schedule

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced their 2017 Spring Training schedule on Tuesday morning. Due to the World Baseball Classic, the spring schedule begins a little sooner than normal and they play a total of 34 games. There are three days off during the schedule.

The Pirates open up on February 25th with two split squad contests, one at McKechnie Field against the Orioles and one on the road  against Tampa Bay. The Pirates and Orioles will play a total of six games against each other, with four of them being held at McKechnie.

Of note on the schedule, March 8th is a game at home against the Dominican Republic WBC team. It’s possible that Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco could be on the opposite side of the field for that game.

Other home games includes at least one game against the Rays, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays. The Pirates play all eight of those teams on the road as well.

The March 27th game against the Twins and the March 28th game against the Red Sox are the only two night games at home.

The spring schedule ends with two games in Montreal against the Blue Jays on March 31st and April 1st.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
