Gerrit Cole Trade Talks Start to Heat Up Again

Published:

According to Jeff Passan from Yahoo Sports, the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees are discussing a Gerrit Cole trade once again and his source seems confident that something will get done between the two teams. Just yesterday we heard that talks have cooled between the two teams, but if Passan’s source is correct, it appears the two sides want to get something done before teams take a brief break for Christmas. Check back for any updates.

Jon Heyman believes the trade is being held up by the Pirates wanting top prospect Gleyber Torres to headline the deal, while the Yankees want the main piece to be Clint Frazier

Missed it before from earlier, but Passan responded to his own tweet by saying the Yankees are the most likely destination for Cole, but if a trade falls through, he believes the Pirates are motivated to move him.

George King from the New York Post says through a source that a deal will get done between the Yankees and Pirates, and that neither Gleyber Torres or Estevan Florial will be part of the deal.

UPDATE: Friday, 9:20 AM: Jon Heyman isn’t hearing the same rumors as everyone else and doesn’t think a trade is imminent at this point.

Update 10:45 AM: Pick your favorite source for news and trust them. Jim Bowden now says a deal is close and Torres won’t be part of it.
