Pittsburgh Pirates Mini-Camp: Day One Discussion Thread

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates are holding their annual winter mini-camp at Pirate City this week. The four-day event is voluntary for any player on the 40-man roster and also includes some prospects not on the 40-man roster. Tim Williams will be providing live coverage of the camp. Players have been arriving since last night and more usually show up as it goes along. As I said, it’s voluntary for 40-man roster players, so they might be there one day, all four days or not at all.

So far on Monday morning we have seen the following players (partial list): Jameson Taillon, Josh Bell, Tyler Glasnow, Clay Holmes, Max Moroff, Austin Meadows, Kevin Newman, Dario Agrazal, Yeudy Garcia, Adam Frazier, Kevin Kramer, Tyler Eppler, Trevor Williams, Steven Brault, Luis Escobar, Nik Turley, Jordan Milbrath, Todd Cunningham, Nick Burdi. Those last four players have all been acquired since the start of the off-season.

UPDATE: 10:00 AM: Chad Kuhl also showed up. Tim Williams has been busy interviewing the new players (and some older ones)

We have some videos today, including both Burdi and Milbrath throwing. Here’s Steven Brault and Trevor Williams having a catch.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
