Pirates Reveal Altoona Curve and West Virginia Power Rosters

Published:

The rosters for the Altoona Curve and West Virginia Power were both released on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Opening Day games later today. There were also a few late changes for Indianapolis and Bradenton.

Both Gage Hinsz and John Bormann aren’t on the Opening Day roster for Bradenton, but that’s due to the team having 27 players and only 25 roster spots. Hinsz will be active once his spot comes up in the rotation and Bormann will join the team when a spot opens up on offense. Scooter Hightower was also added to their roster today, moving up from West Virginia. Outfielder Chris Sharpe took Hightower’s spot.

Indianapolis received Jerrick Suiter yesterday and Damien Magnifico today from Altoona. They are filling the spot of Clay Holmes, who is in the majors, and Kevin Siegrist, who is not currently on the active roster.

Jason Martin, who was acquired in the Gerrit Cole trade, is out with a minor injury. He’s expected to be back soon and will join Altoona when that happens.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
