Live Discussion: Pirates 11, Giants 2

PITTSBURGH — For the first time in 2018, Andrew McCutchen is taking the field at PNC Park.

The longtime Pirates outfielder returned to Pittsburgh Friday with the San Francisco Giants. He still maintains his home in Pittsburgh, so he got to spend the night in his own bed, with only a brief interruption from his son, Steel, before coming to his former place of work to prepare for tonight’s game.

Here’s McCutchen’s full comments to the assembled media:

ON THE MEND

Josh Harrison took batting practice for the first time, testing out his healing right hand. He’s been out of action since April 15 and is expected to be another two and a half weeks out from a return, but the fact that he’s already handling a bat could be a sign that he’s closer to returning than expected.

CONDITIONS

It’s a crisp evening, with a first-pitch temperature of about 67 degrees, falling throughout the game. The wind is minimal, with still flags in center, and minimal opportunity for rain. The Pirates are expected a solid crowd for the game.

Belt with the first good swing on a Jamo fastball, but the ballpark holds it.

    I’m not crying, you’re crying.

I think Taillon thought he was tipping pitches. He’s really spinning the ball in his hand while he takes the signs.

Either way, I hope he finds the depth on his curveball to start getting chases again.

  • I usually watch the games by myself. Tonight the whole family is sitting here waiting to see cutch bat.

  • Hoping I can see the Cutch video on MLB.TV.
