Site Updates: Follow the Pirates’ Draft With a Discounted Subscription; Monthly Plans Are Back

Published:

The MLB draft has always been the biggest event for this site. That seems like a pretty obvious thing for a site called Pirates Prospects, since this event can add 30-35+ new prospects to the system. But aside from the obvious, the draft holds a special significance around here.

The very first draft we covered was in 2009. That was the first year the site was around, and at that point it was just me. The site generally saw about 200-300 page views per day, and maybe a little more. We saw a record 676 page views on the first day of the draft. The next day we got mentioned by Rob Neyer in ESPN and the site exploded to the point of 2,400 page views in a day.

That was the moment a lot of people first discovered this site. A lot of people stuck around after that for the trade deadline and more moves to come. And every year we saw a similar explosion in traffic during the draft. In 2010 it jumped to over 15,000 page views, and we remained with 10,000 per day. In 2011 it jumped to 32,000 and we started seeing 15-25,000 page views per day after that. Things eventually got to the point where we had over 140,000 page views on draft day.

We’ve made a switch away from focusing on page views to focusing on subscriptions. The impact is still the same, where we see a rush of new subscribers during draft week.

This year we are doing a special sale. We’re offering a big subscription discount of 18% off from now through the end of the draft, so that you can follow all of our updates and coverage. To get the discount, use the code MLBDRAFT for an Annual subscription, or MLBDRAFT3 for a Top Prospect Plan.

We’ll have articles after every pick in the first ten rounds, plus interviews with the top pick, and interviews with the Pirates’ front office members on the selections. That will only be the start, and our coverage will continue all throughout the minor league careers of these players, beginning when they make their debuts in the next month.

With these discounts, you get all of our coverage for less than $2.50 per month under the Annual plan, or for about $2 per month on the Top Prospect Plan. That’s a huge value for the amount of content we provide, not just during draft week, but all throughout the year.

Monthly Plans Have Returned

We’re now offering monthly plans again. We removed monthly plans over the offseason due to some changes with our subscription software, along with some issues with the previous monthly plans.

All of the previous plans had to be cancelled due to the subscription software changes. We didn’t add monthly plans as a new option after that, but due to demand from some who view the monthly plans as more convenient, we’ve brought the plan back.

There are no discounts on the monthly plans. The Annual plan saves you money, and the Top Prospect Plan saves you over $50 compared to a month-to-month plan over the same time. We hope that no matter what you choose, you’re with us for the long run. The plans auto-renew, so all you have to do is sign up once and you’re good to go.

You can subscribe under a monthly plan on our subscription page.

Prospect Guide Sale

The Prospect Guide has our top 50 prospect list, and information on every player in the system. This is the last year we will be doing a paperback copy of the book, and we have about 50 of them remaining. Those are on sale this week for $10 off the original price.

We also have the eBook version on sale for half off. You can purchase either book on the products page. We also have discounted paperback versions of the 2017 and 2016 books.

Need Help?

My email address has been used in the past for all help requests with subscription info, or the site. That has been difficult lately, as my email address is used for a lot of other communications and issues on the site. The result lately has been either emails getting lost in a flood of other messages, or not even reaching my inbox, depending on how the email is sent.

To fix this problem, if you need help with anything, email help@piratesprospects.com with your issue.
