Live Discussion: Pirates vs Brewers 12:35 PM Doubleheader; Cervelli Placed on DL

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates (45-49) take on the Milwaukee Brewers (55-40) in the third and fourth of five games at PNC Park before they head into the All-Star break. Ivan Nova will be on the mound against Chase Anderson in game one this afternoon.

Just one Live Discussion for both games today. I’ll add the lineups before the second game, which will be Clay Holmes versus Brent Suter. Holmes was recalled prior to game one, but he’s the 26th man today (he’s actually eligible for both games) so no other roster move needs to be made.

Prior to the game, Francisco Cervelli was placed on the 7-day DL with post-concussion symptoms. Jacob Stallings was recalled from Indianapolis to take his place. Four days of this DL trip will be the All-Star break, so it’s possible he only misses four games total, with two being today’s doubleheader.

Here are the lineups for game one:

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
