Pirates Sign Fifth Round Pick, Grant Koch and Tenth Round Pick, Mike Gretler

Published:

According to Jim Callis, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Grant Koch, their fifth round pick. He received the full value for his spot. Here’s his player page with scouting information. Koch was playing with Arkansas in the College World Series, which wrapped up on Thursday night. The draft tracker will be updated momentarily. If any other draft signings come up today, they will be added to this article and the title will be updated.

There are two top ten round picks remaining, with 36th overall pick Gunnar Hoglund being the key remaining piece before we can figure out what the Pirates have to spend on any over-slot deals. The deadline is Friday, but we could know what’s going on with him after tenth round pick Mike Gretler signs. He was also in the College World Series and as a senior, he should be signing sometime soon.

UPDATE: The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that they have signed tenth round pick Mike Gretler. I’m sure his bonus will be available soon. When it is, we will update the tracker. Here is Gretler’s player page. Both Gretler and Koch have been assigned to Morgantown.

Gretler got $50,000…tracker will be updated shortly.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
