2019 Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training Schedule

Published:

Major League Baseball got an early jump on 2019 Spring Training, releasing the entire schedule for all 30 clubs on Wednesday afternoon. They weren’t released last year until November 20th.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will open their spring schedule on February 23rd on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. They open up their home schedule the following day against the Miami Marlins.

The Pirates end the spring schedule with two games on the road in Houston against the Astros on March 25th and 26th. Their final game in Florida will be played on the 24th at the Baltimore Orioles, and their final home game is a split squad contest versus the Philadelphia Phillies on the 22nd. They also play on the road against the Boston Red Sox that day.

It’s a total of 33 games, with 15 games being played at the ballpark formerly known as McKechnie Field. Home games include contests against the aforementioned Red Sox, Phillies, Orioles and Marlins, as well as the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers. All of the home games are afternoon contests except March 15th, which is a 6:05 PM start time versus the Rays.

The Spring Training report dates have yet to be announced.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
