Pirates Recall Casey Sadler; Alex McRae Optioned to Indianapolis

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Casey Sadler prior to Sunday’s game. To open a spot on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Alex McRae was optioned to Indianapolis.

Sadler was up late last month, which was his first time in the majors since 2015. He was only with the Pirates for two days before being optioned to Indianapolis and didn’t get a chance to pitch.

McRae made his second appearance last night and allowed three runs over 3.1 innings. With Tyler Glasnow and Steven Brault both gone, that meant the Pirates would have been without a long relief option today. Sadler, who last pitched 1.1 innings in relief four days ago, is available for that role.
