Prospect Watch: Will Craig Homers; Jack Herman Takes Over GCL Batting Lead

Published:

P2 Top 30

A look at how the current top 30 prospects did today. If a player is in the majors for an extended time or loses his prospect eligibility (Colin Moran, Nick Kingham, Edgar Santana, Kyle Crick, Max Moroff and Dovydas Neverauskas), he will be removed from this list. Everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. If a player is out for the season, he will be removed and everyone below him will move up a spot. Removing these guys doesn’t mean they have lost prospect status. It is just an attempt to get more active prospects on the list. Rankings are from our updated 2018 Mid-Season Prospect Guide, and links on each name go to their Pirates Prospects player pages.

Indianapolis lost 7-3 in a rain-shortened game to Scranton/WB

This was supposed to be a doubleheader today, but rain pushed the start time back nearly three hours and they will now play a doubleheader on Wednesday instead. Nick Kingham got the start and and was doing fine until the fifth inning was a complete disaster. He gave up four singles to start the inning, followed by a walk, single, homer, single and a hit batter, which ended his day. He was probably saved by the rain because those two runners he left on base with no outs, never got a chance to score. Tanner Anderson was called out to pitch and during his warm-up the game was called.

The Indians got their three runs from one swing, when Jerrick Suiter connected on his second homer of the season in the fourth inning. Pablo Reyes and Ryan Lavarnway each hit doubles. Jose Osuna had a single, which was the only Indianapolis hit that didn’t go for extra bases.

He had an 8:2 GO/AO ratio and threw 65 of 93 pitches for strikes. Agrazal now has a 2.54 ERA in 63.2 innings with Altoona. Geoff Hartlieb followed with two shutout innings, striking out three batters. Tate Scioneaux handled the ninth.

Will Craig had a big day, hitting his 25th double and his 19th homer. He also singled, scored two runs and picked up his 94th RBI. Logan Hill had the big hit in the game with his 15th homer of the season, a three-run shot in the seventh inning.

Bradenton lost 6-1 to Clearwater.

Evan Piechota got the start and went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks, with one strikeout. Jake Brentz was out next and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in two innings. Angel German followed with a scoreless eighth.

Bradenton hitters had a nice challenge tonight, going up against MLB starter Jerad Eickhoff on a rehab assignment. They drew three walks in his four innings, but a line drive single by Adrian Valerio in the fourth inning was their only hit against Eickhoff. It didn’t get much better after he left the game. Casey Hughston picked up an RBI single, which ended up being the only hit over the final five innings for Bradenton. Mitchell Tolman drew two walks.
