Pittsburgh Pirates Mini-Camp: Day One Discussion Thread

The Pittsburgh Pirates are holding their annual winter mini-camp at Pirate City this week. The four-day event is voluntary for any player on the 40-man roster and also includes some prospects not on the 40-man roster. Tim Williams will be providing live coverage of the camp. Players have been arriving since last night and more usually show up as it goes along. As I said, it’s voluntary for 40-man roster players, so they might be there one day, all four days or not at all.

So far on Monday morning we have seen the following players (partial list): Gregory Polanco, Luis Escobar, Eduardo Vera, Jesus Liranzo, Brandon Waddell, Alex McRae, Geoff Hartlieb, Blake Weiman, JT Brubaker, Nick Burdi, Steven Brault, Joe Musgrove, Cole Tucker, Kevin Newman, Steven Baron, Richard Rodriguez, Christian Kelley, Patrick Kivlehan, Ke’Bryan Hayes, Arden Pabst, Jason Martin, Jason Delay and Bryan Reynolds.

Players hit the field at 10 AM. Check back for updates throughout the morning and early afternoon.

Our first bit of video, featuring Cole Tucker and Kevin Newman warming up

Video #2 includes Tucker, Newman and Ke’Bryan Hayes, all working on the same infield drill. Right now (after this video), Tucker is taking grounders at shortstop, while Newman is at second base.

Here’s the infield practice I mentioned above, with video of all three players. First up, Tucker.

Next is Newman at second base.

Last is the Gold Glover at third base.

Photo of all three. Newman batting, while Hayes and Tucker watch.

Second photo, which is really three photos
