The Pittsburgh Pirates (50-70) take on the Chicago Cubs (64-57) for three games this weekend, with the first two taking place at PNC Park, before the series shifts to Williamsport, PA. Joe Musgrove will get the start in the series opener. He allowed three runs over 5.1 innings against the St Louis Cardinals in his last start. That followed eight runs over 3.1 innings against the New York Mets. Musgrove has faced the Cubs twice this year, throwing a total of 9.2 innings without an earned run. The Cubs will counter with veteran right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who has a 3.48 ERA in 129.1 innings, with 114 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP. He is coming off of an outing against the Cincinnati Reds in which he gave up seven earned runs on 12 hits in 2.2 innings. He allowed a total of six runs in his previous five starts combined. Hendricks has faced the Pirates once this season, giving up two runs over three innings back on July 2nd.
