The Pittsburgh Pirates (65-83) take on the Chicago Cubs (79-68) for three games at Wrigley Field this weekend. The Pirates are sending out James Marvel for his second Major League start this afternoon. He went five innings against the St Louis Cardinals in his debut, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. Marvel had a 2.94 ERA in 162.1 innings this year split between Indianapolis and Altoona. He posted a 1.09 WHIP, with a .223 BAA and 136 strikeouts.
The Cubs are countering with veteran right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who has a 3.33 ERA in 159.2 innings, with 137 strikeouts and a 1.11 WHIP. He allowed one run over 5.2 innings against the San Diego Padres in his last start. In his prior outing, he gave up one run over six innings versus the Seattle Mariners at Wrigley Field. Hendricks has faced the Pirates twice this season, both times at PNC Park. He gave up a total of three runs on seven hits and two walks in ten innings during those two meetings.
