Live Discussion: Pirates vs Marlins, 7:05 PM

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates (60-78) take on the Miami Marlins (49-88) for three games at PNC Park this week. The Pirates will send out Trevor Williams, who has a 5.26 ERA in 119.2 innings, with 90 strikeouts and a 1.39 WHIP. He has allowed three runs over his last 13 innings, including a seven inning outing in Colorado and six shutout innings against the Cincinnati Reds 11 days ago. Williams did not pitch when these two teams faced off earlier in the year in Miami. The Marlins are countering with 24-year-old right-hander Robert Dugger, who will be making his third big league start. He threw seven innings without an earned run on Thursday against the Reds in his last start, which followed six earned runs over five innings versus the New York Mets in his pro debut back on August 5th.

Here are the lineups:

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
