The Pittsburgh Pirates (68-91) begin their final series of the season on Friday night, taking on the Cincinnati Reds (73-86) for three games. The Pirates will send out Steven Brault, who has a 5.07 ERA in 108.1 innings, with 90 strikeouts and a 1.50 WHIP. He has given up 19 earned runs over his last 13.1 innings (three starts). In his lone appearances against the Reds this season, Brault threw 5.1 shutout innings back on May 29th.

The Reds are countering with 29-year-old righty Anthony DeSclafani, who has a 3.84 ERA in 161.2 innings, with 162 strikeouts and a 1.18 WHIP. In his last three starts combined, he has allowed four runs over 19 innings. DeSclafani has faced the Pirates three times this season with vastly different results. He gave up six runs over 4.1 innings back on April 7th. He allowed three runs over 5.2 innings on May 29th against Steven Brault. Finally, he gave up one run over six innings on August 23rd.
