AFL Recap: Jared Oliva Picks Up Two Hits in Peoria’s Loss

The Peoria Javelinas took on the Mesa Solar Sox on Sunday night. It was a 1-0 game through six innings, but the Javelinas ended up losing 8-2. They dropped below .500 with the loss, now holding a 12-13 record with four games left in the season. They weren’t eliminated from the playoffs tonight because the Surprise Saguaros also lost, but their magic number is down to one.

Jared Oliva was the only player from the Pittsburgh Pirates in this game. He was in center field and batted fourth. Oliva went 2-for-4 with two singles, raising him to a .346 average. He took over the league lead with 27 hits. Oliva’s .984 OPS is tied for third best in the league.
