Winter Leagues: Opening Day in Australia; Pablo Reyes Re-Injures Ankle

In the Dominican on Tuesday night, Oneil Cruz played his second game and went 1-for-3 with a single and two strikeouts. He went 1-for-4 with a single in his winter debut on Monday night. For the second night in a row, he handled all five chances in the field.

Pablo Reyes left his team’s game on Saturday night after striking out in his first two at-bats. In was announced on Tuesday morning that he is out with an ankle injury and he’s now day-to-day. He originally injured the ankle a few weeks ago while trying to catch a pop fly behind third base and he slipped on wet grass.

In Puerto Rico, Dylan Busby started at first base and Chris Sharpe was in left field. Both of them went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Busby reached on a hit-by-pitch, while Sharpe picked up an outfield assist. Sharpe is 0-for-9 with five strikeouts. Ike Schlabach picked up a save with a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed one walk, with no hits or strikeouts.

The season in Australia begins today. Two Pittsburgh Pirates are on Opening Day rosters. Robbie Glendinning will play for the Perth Heat again, while Jerrick Suiter (pictured above) is on the Canberra Calvary.
