Winter Leagues: Recap from the Past Two Days

Published:

In Australia on Sunday, Robbie Glendinning wrapped up and unusually tough week with a 1-for-5 night. He started games at third base, second base and shortstop during the week. Glendinning is hitting .315/.388/.528 in 28 games.

In game three of the playoffs in Puerto Rico, Chris Sharpe (pictured above) went 1-for-3 with a single. He went 1-for-8 with two walks over the first two games.

In the Dominican on Sunday, Socrates Brito went 1-for-4 with a single, walk, RBI and run scored.

On Monday, Brito went 0-for-3 in his team’s 6-0 loss. His club had just two hits (both singles), no walks and one hit batter. He is 10-for-45 (.222) with a double, homer and seven RBIs in 11 playoff games.

In Mexico on Monday, Randy Romero was used as a pinch-runner and he scored a run. His only other playoff appearance (through four games) was also as a pinch-runner and he scored a run that game as well. The only difference is that he played an inning in right field in game one and didn’t play defense last night.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
