Live Discussion: Pirates vs Yankees, 1:05 PM

The Pittsburgh Pirates are at home today to take on the New York Yankees. The Pirates won 19-13 over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday to give them a 3-11-1 record this spring. Today’s game will be broadcast live on KDKA 93.7 FM and a replay of the game will be shown on MLB Network at 8 PM tonight.

Here is today’s lineup:

  6. Erik Gonzalez, 3B
  7. John Ryan Murphy, C

Chris Stratton will be the starting pitcher. He will be followed by Richard Rodriguez, Robbie Erlin, Cody Ponce, Dovydas Neverauskas, James Marvel and Michael Feliz. The extra pitchers over from minor league camp are Ike Schlabach, John O’Reilly and Nicholas Economos.

The bench today includes Ke’Bryan Hayes, Oneil Cruz, Jason Martin, Socrates Brito, Will Craig, Christian Kelley, Jason Delay, Jake Elmore and Arden Pabst. Matthew Frazier and Brett Pope are over from minor league camp.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
