The Pirates have three days off for the All-Star Game.  Well, most of them do.  The team’s lone representative, right fielder Dave Parker, will be starting in the game tomorrow.

The Pirates go into the break with a record of 46-39, leaving them fourth in a tightly packed NL East.  Montreal leads the division, with the Cubs two and a half games back, the Phillies three and the Pirates four.

In the NL West, Houston holds a six-game lead over Cincinnati, with the Giants eight and a half back.  Baltimore leads the AL East by two over Boston and six over Milwaukee.  In the AL West, the Angels lead Texas by two and Minnesota by five.

In head-to-head matchups, the Pirates have had trouble with the Phillies, going 0-4, while making hay against the Cubs (7-2), Dodgers (5-1) and Cards (7-4).  They haven’t done well against the first-place Expos, going 3-5.  Their records against other teams:

San Diego:  7-4
