Every week we will be recapping the transactions in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league system, looking at the trends and adding some context to some of the bigger moves.
At the Triple-A level last week, the Pirates shuffled down some of their fringe-MLB players. In the lower-levels, the Pirates saw some big prospects returning from injuries, including Oneil Cruz.
Below are all of the transactions from the week of 8/14-8/20.

Indianapolis
LHP Dillon Peters promoted to Pittsburgh. (8/14) The Pirates added Peters in a trade for cash considerations with the Angels on July 19th. He’s already made two starts with the Pirates, combining to allow two earned runs in 9.2 innings of work, with six strikeouts and four walks.

3B Jackson Glenn promoted to Bradenton from the FCL. (8/17) Glenn was taken in the fifth round by the Pirates in this year’s draft. He was a college senior, taken to save money for over-slot players, but also rated high as a college senior. In his first six games with Bradenton, he’s put up a 1.307 OPS.

RHP Miguel Yajure activated from 60-day IL. (8/19) Yajure gave up one run in four innings with a walk and six strikeouts in his first start back in Triple-A.

LHP Sam Howard begins a rehab assignment with Indianapolis. (8/17)

SS Oneil Cruz activated from 7-day IL. (8/20) Cruz had a big night in his return, going 3-for-5 with two doubles.
RHP Noe Toribio activated from 7-day IL. (8/18) Toribio was previously a starter, but made his return in the bullpen, throwing two shutout innings.
LHP Cam Alldred reinstated from temporary inactive list. (8/15)

OF Matt Gorski activated from 7-day IL. (8/18) Gorski hit his 14th home run of the year last night.
RHP Carmen Mlodzinski activated from 7-day IL. (8/14) Mlodzinski threw two shutout innings in his return on 8/15, then gave up four runs in two innings on 8/21.

RHP Steven Wright released from Indianapolis. (8/19)
Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
