Game Recap: Oneil Cruz had a big game and Indianapolis won 5-4 in ten innings. John O’Reilly got the start and did well through three innings, before allowing four runs in the fourth. The bullpen combo of Hunter Stratton, Tyler Bashlor, Blake Weiman and Matt Eckelman combined for six shutout innings. Oneil Cruz hit his first double and fourth homer for Indianapolis. He scored two runs and drove in a pair. Bligh Madris got the scoring started with his 23rd double, which scored Cruz in the third. Indianapolis was down by three going into the ninth, but Diego Castillo homered and then Cruz hit a two-run homer to tie it. Indianapolis scored their run in the tenth by starting the inning with the free runner on second base, which was followed by a wild pitch and an error to end the contest. Tucupita Marcano had two singles and a run scored. Rodolfo Castro was named Player of the Week in the former International League, but he started off this week by going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
