P2Daily: Introducing a New Daily Feature on Pirates Prospects

Published:

At the start of 2022, we switched over to a brand new weekly format on Pirates Prospects.

Ever since that change, we’ve been releasing seven featured articles every Tuesday. That gives you the option to read all of the articles at once, or read them daily to spread out over the week.

The plan with this was to eventually incorporate daily coverage back into the mix. That will be easier when there are actual games being played and a daily Prospect Watch.

Now that we’re in a groove with the weekly articles — and let me say that John Dreker, Wilbur Miller, Cody Potanko, Anthony Murphy, and Jason Gindele have done a great job with their stuff — it’s time to incorporate the daily articles.

Introducing P2Daily, which is exactly what it sounds like: A daily article on Pirates Prospects.

This article will be in sections, led by an update from one of our writers each day. Cody Potanko’s “Prospect Notes” feature will be broken up and presented in this format, with one player highlighted each day. Every other writer will be contributing as well, whenever they have something to submit.

The second half of the daily articles, for now, will be an article spotlight on one of the features from the week. Maybe you’d rather read them daily. Maybe you want further discussion on a topic a few days later. This will allow for either, or serve as a reminder of an article you might have missed.

Eventually, when the season returns, there will be more sections that will preview the daily action.

For now, welcome to P2Daily!

What Is Different About This Top Rated Pirates Farm System?

I love prospect ranking season, and we are in the thick of it right now. Lately there have been constant updates from FanGraphs, Keith Law at The Athletic, and my boys over at Baseball America.

No matter where the updates are coming from, they range from “Optimistic” to “Really Optimistic.” There’s a lot to like about what we’re seeing, both with the impact talent the Pirates have, and the overall farm system rankings.

Skeptics might say that the Pirates have been here before. They’d be right, and they’d be right to point out how the last top rated farm system didn’t produce a lot of wins in Pittsburgh.

For the lead article this week, I gave some reasons why this time around is different, detailing some of the changes that have been made to the player development system. Check that out above, with links to some of the system features from last month.
