Pirates Trim Spring Training Roster; Oneil Cruz Optioned to Indianapolis

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates made three roster cuts on Tuesday afternoon, optioning Oneil Cruz to Indianapolis, while pitchers Cam Alldred and Beau Sulser were reassigned to minor league camp.

Cruz went 5-for-15 during Spring Training with two homers and a .333/.333/.733 slash line, while getting a chance to play some outfield, which he will likely continue to do in Indianapolis. He played just six games at Indianapolis last year before getting into the final two games of the 2021 season for the Pirates. He has not played outfield in a regular season game yet at any level.

Sulser pitched 1.2 scoreless innings over two spring appearances, while Alldred threw one shutout inning in his only spring game. Both should be in the bullpen in Indianapolis, though Sulser has received plenty of starts in the past.

The active Spring Training roster is now down to 40 spot, with 12 more cuts needed before the rosters are set ahead of Opening Day on April 9th, so there are still a lot of moves to be made in a short time.
