LOW-A: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

Minor League Season Preview: 2022 Bradenton Marauders

Game Time: 6:30pm

Box Score

Starting Pitcher: Justin Meis

  • Final Line: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K

Game Recap:

Bradenton (14-12) broke a four-game losing streak by beating Tampa, 3-2.  Justin Meis has had some extreme ups and downs, although some of the downs have resulted more from defensive breakdowns.  This was one of the ups, as he threw five shutout innings, striking out four.  Darvin Garcia gave up two runs in relief, although Dante Mendoza let one of them score.  Carlos Lomeli got the save with a scoreless ninth.  The Marauders had only four hits; Brenden Dixon had two of them, including a double that was the only extra base hit.  The double drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth.  Jase Bowen and Randy Romero had the other hits.  The two teams combined to go 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

He’s even seen Hall-of-Fame Pirates who didn’t get traded mid-career, if you can imagine such a thing. His first in-person game was a 5-4, 11-inning win at Forbes Field over Milwaukee (no, not that one). He’s been writing about the Pirates at various locations online for over 20 years. It has its frustrations, but it’s certainly more cathartic than writing legal stuff. Wilbur is retired and now lives in Bradenton with his wife and three temperamental cats.
