So the pirates have 4 guys right now if given a full season could hit 30 HRs. Reynolds, Vogelbach, Suwinski and Cruz. That’s exciting. I know there’s a lot of Vogelbach hate on here but I think he’s been solid. He brings a good at bat, walks a ton and hits for power.

hoffmark83

After tonight MLB is going to investigate the Pirates & Perez to see if that was an imposter or if Perez has been taking performance enhancers.

Mtgj

Shelton with a great managerial game. God knows everyone would be on his case if he left bednar in to lose the game:

mikeschalke

He had a cogent moment for a change.

PirateRican21

Yayyy he did the right thing!

Mtgj

Just making it a point to let everyone know that he is capable of doing the correct thing.

PirateRican21

Point taken, just that is easier to hate, sometimes……

skliesen

How often do we see Closers come in an pitch bad in non-save situations? Note to DS, don’t put in Bednar when team has a 4 run lead in the 9th.

Mtgj

I do agree that closers seem to struggle in non save situations

PirateRican21

roibert.kasperski

Go Yerry Go!!!

jon6er

He went… and he conquered, lol.

skliesen

If the Pirates were actually playing for something besides pride, I’d be oscillating between nervous as hell and pissed as hell at the IF defense this inning.

emjayinTN

Thank you, I did not see the game, but reading the Plays out of the box score, there was a deflection off Castillo’s glove, and then just a base hit to 1B Michael Chavis. I was wondering about those plays.

I also had to check to see if maybe they left Stratton in to start the 9th, but that was not the case, therefore why was Bednar even in the game to start the inning? I know we wanted to take this first game, but trust BRU to go 6, then Crowe and Stratton, and then use your Closer in a non-save situation? One of those “gotta be there decisions”, but with 3 more games against the Brewers, it’s hard to grasp what he was trying to do.

PirateRican21

A foot off the plate, wow.

PirateRican21

Wilbur Miller

Funny thing is, after a 3-HR game, his #s still suck.

ayukish2001

john_fluharty

Good to see Bednar on the mound again.

skliesen

Not so much.

ArkyWags

That didn’t take long!

john_fluharty

Or maybe not

jon6er

I think they broke him.

john_fluharty

I’m guessing his back is still bothering him probably IL stint in his near future

roibert.kasperski

skliesen

Well, they do say things happen in three’s.

Amazing!

PirateRican21

Called it!

jon6er

Think Perez will start tomorrow😏

skliesen

Sign of the Apocalypse?

roibert.kasperski

PirateRican21

I’m taking all my cash out of the bank, all $27.

Mblee24

Should we be concerned with Hayes’ OPS sliding under 700. The guy seems like he might just be a good fielder and a 680-710 OPS kind of guy. Sorry if I am being a buzz kill.

skliesen

He’s north of a 3 WAR player after roughly half a season.

Sorry to be a buzz kill to your buzz kill. Actually I’m not.

Mblee24

I really wasn’t trying to be a buzzkill. I was looking at game day and saw his OPS below 700. It’s concerning to me because his WAR appears to be strictly fielding. I would like the bat to start coming around. I like Hayes but I don’t think he’s a superstar cornerstone type of guy. I lean more towards Reynolds and Cruz for that. I think he’s good role player going forward that is an ace fielder but I hope they don’t try to make him the centerpiece of a winning team if that makes sense.

skliesen

I get what you’re saying. My bromance with Hayes is definitely the root cause of my words towards you.

I would definitely agree he needs to show more with the bat then he has of late to be a cornerstone player on a winning team. I’m optimistic he will.

tom2125

How aren’t people concerned about his bat? He loves to chop down on the ball and other than a rookie appearance, hasn’t hit for power in his entire professional career…

AdministrativeSky236

As someone else outlined, all of his hard hit % and other batted ball numbers are in the top 10%. Also, his expected slg and BA are both a bit higher than what he is showing, so a bit of luck or variance is probably at play. Of course, the fact that he is so gifted defensively that he will provide plenty of value even if he doesn’t fit the prototypical 3B power hitter mold. Then again, we have a 6’7″ SS right now, so I don’t think we need guys to fit any sort of mold, we just need players the provide value in any shape or size

Mblee24

My hope is he becomes an annual 270-290 hitter, with 10-15 HRs and 30 2Bs. I think that gives him some offensive value and makes him a 5-6 WAR player with his defense.

tedwins

I notice big differences this year between FWar and BWar, fangraphs has him 2War, i didnt notice such large differences im seeing this year🤔

Mblee24

Yeah I see that too. That’s interesting.

jon6er

Stratton watch….

jon6er

He’s always in and out of looking really good or really bad. Maybe it’s usage. I was also thinking when they are talking about some of these guy pitching multiple innings I think they forget if a guy is throwing 30+ pitches an inning that is multiple innings, lol.

jon6er

It looks like he has lost something on his fastball. His breaking stuff still looks sharp.

ricramer

3 for 3 and still batting .159

roibert.kasperski

He was like .110……..

Tim Williams

Is anyone else’s GameDay app broken?

I keep getting the same Michael Perez notifications.

Tim Williams

Okay, I think they finally fixed it.

It was a solo home run. They sent out a third notification with the correction.

john_fluharty

They said it was the fourth three hit game of his career. That’s a testament to his career batting average lol

john_fluharty

Now I am wondering if he had any 4 hit games before tonight.

hoffmark83

To think I wanted Brubaker to bat instead of him. I better not quit my day job

PirateRican21

PirateRican21

Three homer watch for Perez.

jon6er

Shiver me timbers….. Perez

PirateRican21

Oh Madris, is ok your name is not Castro

ricramer

Why did Park come out?

roibert.kasperski

perez??

PirateRican21

Extend Perez, extend Perez.

PirateRican21

Lefties getting to Bru, 5 hits only one by a RH hitter.

mikeschalke

Oh how rare it is for this pitching staff to have a shut down inning after we score. Doesn’t happen very often.

PiratePrimate

JT needs to be more intense with every pitch, not just after he gives up a couple shots. He needs to learn there’s no such thing as cruise control on the mound

It’s fun watching Quintana following behind these guys in the dugout doing his own high fiving behind them.

PiratePrimate

You mean the sound off Suwinski’s bat?

Wilbur Miller

I watched the replay. It looked like his rear foot slipped, then the ball went 412 ft.

PiratePrimate

That ball was on the outside edge and he crushed it.

jon6er

Lol!

jon6er

That sound the ball makes coming off his bat.

Colin

Cruz destroyed that baseball

Wilbur Miller

Meh. 110.6. He’s slippin’. 😄

PiratePrimate

VanMeter can be a valuable bench player

john_fluharty

I agree, as long as they use him as such

phieralph

Why the neverending carousel of Michael Perez? Why not Jamie Ritchie in AAA?

He’s got 3000 career AB’s in the minors, .277 BA, and .401 OBP. Got stuck in the Astros system.

I never hear him talked about.

AdministrativeSky236

Cause perez has that 3 homer power!

john_fluharty

A good question. Even Delay. Just lose Perez and bring up one of them.

Colin

Good inning Bru. Let’s get this dude a win!

john_fluharty

No idea why the 5th inning was so confusing. Suwinski did not tag up, was tagged out.

roibert.kasperski

LOL! You are still confused. Suwinski scored even though he did not tag up. He crossed the plate before Park was tagged out. Park was considered out at 2nd. The run somehow still scored even though Suwinski never tagged up. If the Washington player had touched the base first before tagging out Park, I believe Suwinski would have been ruled out. Some crazy rule and they umps apparently called it right as they called NY to verify and upheld as called.

john_fluharty

I had to Google it.

john_fluharty

I will just stay confused then. Makes no sense to me. Lol

jon6er

This video explains it somewhat.

hoffmark83

Can the Pirates DH for the Catcher instead of the Pitcher? Asking for a friend.

AdministrativeSky236

Lol this aged well

roibert.kasperski

NOO! Perez must hit!! EXTEND PEREZ!!!

well I have been drinking since it was 5 pm in Ireland……….

AdministrativeSky236

Yes yes yes!

jon6er

Only if your pitchers name is Ohtani.

PiratePrimate

Shelton and Cherington seem to have settled on a lineup

SBRO

roibert.kasperski

Hey! You stole my go to GIF!!! 😂

Catch_22

Looking to get good tickets for the Yankees series, but nothing but nosebleed

NMR

Awesome sign.

Colin

I was just trying to talk my girlfriend into going Tuesday night. Now that you say that, probably not

PirateRican21

Why torture yourself? 🤨

RAS TN

So looking ahead Keller against Yankees…oh boy maybe additional fireworks display for the City on 7/5…

roibert.kasperski

The way this season has gone, could see a 1 hit performance for 6+ innings for Keller just as easily as him not making it out of the 2nd and the Bucs down a touchdown. Weird crap has happened all season.

hoptown

Technically, it’s EDT right now. 😜

roibert.kasperski

The Best thing is at 4:00 your time it is 5:00 pm here in da east. You can start the drinking !

PiratePrimate

So that’s why we start drinking around here in mid-afternoon. It’s all these easterners who’ve moved out here but their body clocks tell them when it’s time for the first one. Now I understand.

roibert.kasperski

Ok, it is now 5pm in Ireland!!! Let the whiskey flow no matter what Olson Johnson says about the Irish!

The Irish were bathed in ignorance and sin until St. Patrick invented Irish Whiskey and they became the most literate people in the world.
