Prospect Watch: Anthony Solometo Does Well in His Second Start; Strong Outing for Bolton

Anthony Solometo, who is the top left-handed pitching prospect in the Pirates system, makes his second pro start tonight for Bradenton. He went three innings in his debut, allowing two unearned runs on three hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Cody Bolton gets the start for Indianapolis, trying to build off of his recent success. He had a 2.30 ERA in May, after posting a 3.86 ERA in April.

Cody Bolton had a strong month of May and he carried that into June, as he went five innings in this game, allowing one run on two hits and two walks. He struck out seven batters. He now has a 2.78 ERA in 32.1 innings, with 41 strikeouts. Cam Alldred tossed a scoreless sixth. Aaron Fletcher gave up two runs in the seventh, but both were unearned. Indianapolis scored their only run in the 4-1 loss on a homer by Bligh Madris, his fourth of the season. He also had a single and a walk. Travis Swaggerty had two singles to raise him to a .273 average. Oneil Cruz returned from his minor ankle injury and he went 0-for-3 with a walk. The team went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Game Recap:

Altoona won a 13-12 slugfest over Bowie on Thursday night. The Curved scored nine runs in the second, then went down 11-9 going into the bottom of the eighth when they added four more runs, then held on for the win. Starter Will Kobos lasted just 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk. Omar Cruz, who was originally scheduled to start, came on in the second and allowed five runs on four hits and two walks in 3.1 innings, striking out five batters. Enmanuel Mejia allowed four runs in two innings. JC Flowers gave up a run in his 1.1 innings, before Tyler Samaniego recorded the final two outs for the save. He has thrown 14 no-hit innings since allowing a single on April 15th.

Andres Alvarez has been the best hitter for Altoona in his limited playing time, but he should get regular work now, especially with Nick Gonzales out for a week (see below). Alvarez went 3-for-5, with his second triple and his ninth homer, driving in five runs. He has a 1.016 OPS this year. Blake Sabol is doing nearly as well after going 4-for-5 with a double. He has a .921 OPS. Aaron Shackelford had three hits, three runs, two RBIs and two doubles. Matt Gorski hit his first double since joining Altoona. Matt Fraizer hit his third triple. Jared Triolo stole his seventh base.

Nick Gonzales was placed on the 7-day IL retroactive to yesterday, but he’s not expected to miss any extra time.

Game Recap:

Greensboro won 7-6 in 12 innings on a walk-off single by Yoyner Fajardo. Domingo Gonzalez started the game and had some issues, allowing four runs in 3.2 innings to raise him to a 6.97 season ERA. Santiago Florez allowed one hit in his 2.1 innings, though the hit was a homer. He had no walks and three strikeouts. Ricky DeVito allowed just a hit batter in his two frames, striking out three batters. Michell Miliano gave up a run, while recording one out. Cam Junker threw two scoreless, then Nick Dombkowski got the win with a shutout frame in the 12th.

Greensboro had plenty of runners in this game, with 14 hits, five walks and two hit batters. They scored their first run in the second inning on an Ernny Ordonez double. A Hudson Head single in the seventh made it a 5-2 deficit for the Grasshoppers. Jacob Gonzalez doubled in a run in the eighth, then Abrahan Gutierrez tied the scored with a two-run homer, his third of the season. Wilmington added a run in the top of the ninth, then Endy Rodriguez tied it up again with a triple, his third of the season. He also walked twice. Gutierrez had three hits. Sammy Siani, Jack Herman, Gonzalez and Fajardo each had two hits. Maikol Escotto saw his average drop to .173, but his OBP went up due to two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Game Recap:

Anthony Solometo made his second pro start on Thursday night and he had four solid innings, allowing one run on three hits, with no walks and four strikeouts in four innings. He got through the first two innings clean on 19 pitches, then a single, steal, passed ball and ground ball scored a run in the third. Another batter singled, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. He gave up a lead-off double in the fourth, but two strikeouts and a ground ball later, he got out of the inning. He threw 52 pitches, with 35 strikes. Carlos Lomeli followed in the fifth and allowed three runs while recording one out. Darvin Garcia recorded the final two outs of the inning, then gave up a run in the sixth. Wilkin Ramos allowed three runs in the seventh, two of them earned. Johan Montero allowed a run in the eighth, as all five pitchers contributed runs towards the 9-4 loss.

Bradenton got their first run on a Brenden Dixon single in the fourth. In the sixth, Jase Bowen hit his seventh home run. In the seventh, Mike Jarvis doubled in a run, then Deivis Nadal brought in the final run with his first triple. Juan Jerez got injured on a single in the first and left, getting replaced by Alexander Mojica, who had an 0-for-3 night. He is on an 0-for-31 streak since his last hit on May 21st. Rodolfo Nolasco reached base three times on a single, walk and HBP.
