Prospect Watch: Starting Pitchers Excel in the Lower Levels, Which Wasn’t Such Great News on Monday

Published:

It’s just the three lower level teams playing today, getting their action out of the way early so all eyes can be on the big league game tonight. I heard the Pirates called up their best hitter at Indianapolis this year and he’s bringing Oneil Cruz along with him? Anyway, I’ll add the boxscores and starting pitchers below as soon as they are available online. The FCL game might have some weather issues according to the reports from late late Sunday night, so we will see how that plays out. The two DSL Pirates teams are playing each other, so that should be fun. I’m inviting you to join me, shall you?

Minor League Season Preview: 2022 DSL Pirates

Game Time: 11:00 AM

Box Score: LINK

Starting Pitcher: Isaias Uribe (0-0, 9.64)

  • Final Line:  4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO

Notable Performances:

Delfin Ramirez 1-for-2

Robert De Paula 0-for-3

Rodolfo De La Cruz 0-for-3

Eduardo Oviedo 0-for-3

Game Recap:

The DSL Pirates Black & Gold game provided good news and bad news with the starting pitchers. Isaias Uribe was dominant in this game, allowing just a walk in his four innings of work. His mound opponent (see below) basically did the same thing. So you had two great pitching performances, but they were both against Pirates hitters. Yoerys Hernandez followed Uribe and gave up four earned runs on three hits and three walks in three innings, taking the loss. Delfin Ramirez didn’t start the game, but he ended up with the only hit for the Pirates Black.

He continued that streak on Monday, tossing four shutout innings against the Pirates (not sure if that’s good or bad). He has 13 strikeouts in his 11.2 innings. Jesus Clode took over in the fifth and threw two no-hit innings with three strikeouts. Luis Faringthon tossed a scoreless seventh to close out the 4-0 victory. Gold scored three runs in the fifth, starting with a two-run single from Yordany De Los Santos. Roinny Aguiar scored the third run when he stole home. That was his third stolen base of the year. Axiel Plaz hit his first career homer in the seventh to cap the scoring. The Gold team had just four hits, giving the two teams a total of four hits in the game.
