Prospect Watch: Full Slate Tuesday, With DSL Teams Facing Each Other

Plenty of action to distract from the brainless blundering at the major league level.  The intramural game in the DSL has a good pitching matchup, Pitterson Rosa vs. Adolfo Oviedo.  Both have been very strong, except Rosa had a meldown his last time out.

UPDATE: All of this week’s premium articles will drop on Thursday. More info:

Hopefully Hudson Head is next year’s Gorski story, ie he starts back at Greensboro after a disappointing year, kills it & moves up to AA mid season. He’s still young

Bucs'N'Pucks (Jeff Reed)

Also think they should promote Gorski to Indy, and Macias to Altoona. Macias is likely an afterthought at this point, but he already hit well in Greensboro last year, and is heating up again

So a hot 100 odd plate appearances juiced by a nearly .400 BABIP overcoming a 30% K rate means Gorski should be promoted? I’d say hold up on that.

Bucs'N'Pucks (Jeff Reed)

He’s going to be 25 in December, and still tearing the cover off the ball since promotion to AA. I say lets see if he can keep it rolling. With injuries and promotions, playing time wouldn’t be an issue. If it were to happen, it probably wouldn’t be until the whole return of IL players is dealt with and the deadline.

So he’ll be 25? He’s not gonna expire like milk if he gets to 26. If he keeps it going another 100 or so, I’d be with you. I wanna see more than a hot month at a level.

Somewhat liberal slant of stats to make your point. He’s just under 30% K rate (29.5) with a BABIP of .385 in 122 PAs. Not a huge overall difference but your point could have been made without touching on the magical thresholds of 30% and .400. With that all said, what’s he have to gain by hitting AA pitching? Throw him in the deep end and see if he drowns.

Because it’s 100 odd plate appearances? So that really doesn’t indicate he has nothing to prove since it’s such a small sample size.

Since when did it become a race to see who gets to the majors first? I get that we love all the prospects here and we want all of them to succeed. But it’s getting a little ridiculous when people are clamoring for promotions in this case. Or my favorite, someone saying Jared Jones should be promoted because he had one outstanding start.

This has been my soapbox for the last couple weeks and couldn’t agree more…

…so of course I would make an exception for Gorski himself, lol.

I think these kinds of dudes are who they are. Gorski has an idea what he’s doing at the plate, it’s just a big swing that’ll always come with whiffs. Much more comfortable pushing them than dudes with immature approaches that’ll inevitably get picked apart.

Bucs'N'Pucks (Jeff Reed)

Is Mateo good again?

Looks like bolton out of the pen today, they must already be working to limit pitch counts

Are you here? I am about to leave as the weather is looking ominous. Might get another half inning in.

Another day, another great game for plaz in the DSL. Anyone know if he will have the defense to stay?

According to Clay Davenport (see bottom RHS), his defense is not as strong as for Samuel Escudero or Richard Ramirez

Of course, it’s based on not many games and a black-box algorithm

Sign me up for the Axiel Plaz fan club, can’t wait to see the t-shirts!

My memory could be off and John Dreker can certainly correct me if so but I seem to remember from his write-up after being signed that his defense was pretty well polished for his age and that he had potential with the bat. That bat is exceeding all expectations right now though. Obviously I haven’t seen him play though.

Bucs'N'Pucks (Jeff Reed)

Most intriguing matchup (Greensboro) isn’t being streamed. Nashville will be a nice series for testing hitters, since they have the #1 Team ERA in International League.

Jasson going about against the Bradenton arms.

Prior to this season I was beginning to think Dominguez was the type of dude who was just physically maxed out and therefore stood out immediately against his level of competition. But he’s putting together a good season and still a couple years younger than league average players in A ball. I typically don’t like rooting for Yankees but I wanna see him in the bigs someday.

Bucs'N'Pucks (Jeff Reed)

See house Peralta handles this lineup, when he makes his second start since being activated.

Request can this posting Prospect Watch stay up the next day for the morning to view the day before results…
