Game Recap:
Luis Peralta has been on the development list since his last start on May 24th when he got knocked out of the game in the second inning. He had an incredible 41 strikeouts in 21.2 innings at that point, but it came with a 1.98 WHIP and a 7.89 ERA. He returned strong, going three scoreless on one hit, one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 27 of 37 pitches for strikes. Yoelvis Reyes followed in the fourth and retired all six batters he faced. Wilkin Ramos came on in the sixth and allowed an unearned run. Mitchell Miller gave up one run in two innings, and Dante Mendoza threw a scoreless ninth for his third save, lowering him to a 1.48 ERA. Bradenton won 3-2 and the difference in the game was a fifth inning passed ball that allowed two runs to score. Tsung-Che Cheng then followed with his fourth triple, giving the Marauders three runs in the inning. Cheng’s triple was the only extra-base hit of the game for either side. Tucupita Marcano played his first rehab game and he went 0-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
Jones and Peralta pitch a combined 10 innings and only gave up 1 BB?!!! Amazing!
Hoping a new day as dawned for both of these highly talented, but wild arms!
Jones has had 14 Starts at GBO and is within 3 innings of what he threw in Bradenton last year. He will turn 21 in August – is it too aggressive to bump him up to Altoona for his next start. In addition to the 0 Walks and 9 K’s, he also posted an 8/1 GO/FO rate.
Gorski is hitting HR’s at Altoona at the same rate as Jack Suwinski did before his call-up. We have a shortage of RH hitting OF, and especially one who can legitimately play all 3 OF positions, and hit for power. With what he has done at A+ and AA in his first 100 AB, and being a college draft who is now 24, maybe a promotion to AAA? I know that is really stretching it for the Pirates, but they have done some very aggressive things this year.
I doubt Pirates are in a hurry to promote either Jones or Gorski anytime soon. And I’m certainly not in favor of doing anything to upset the apple cart for Jones. I say let him continue to build upon this start and build more confidence.
As for Gorski, I think he will be given a chance next year to be a regular in Pittsburgh.
Does Jones’ overall performance warrant a promotion? I don’t think so.
Agreed, the stuff would play, of course. However, his stuff hasn’t been able to coverup his deficiencies in control and command, so he still has more to prove at this level. If he can show the ability to be a pitcher instead of a thrower for the next few weeks, then maybe he gets the boost towards the end of the season
Exactly. This is an encouraging step. But I think he needs a bunch of those to show more consistent control and command before he gets the bump to AA.
Bae should be up.
But Vanmeter and Newman need opportunities….
100%
Ho Hum…Bae keeps rolling along, 2nd or top 5 in AAA in avg, runs, 3Bs, and 8th in OPS… we have something special coming up at some point 👏👏👏👏
It’s time!
Agreed. He has little to prove in AAA.
Wonder why peggy and sabol got pulled after just a few ABs, am i too optimistic hoping for promotions?
Nothing in the play-by-play suggested anything happened to anybody. Maybe they’ll both go to Indy when all the rehab guys come back up. Then again, there’ll be younger players going back down, so I dunno.
Fair enough, I was thinking about the players moving up and not necessarily about any of the young guys going back down oops! Though I am hoping its roughly half moving back up and half DFA/staying at indy

So . . . Davis seems OK now.
Been hit once since the 12th
Shhhhhhh….
Swags gets in on the act.
Great start for Jones today. 7 IP, 9 K.
pretty dominant start from jones today. 7ip. 4 hits. 1 run. 0 walks. 9 ks
The new efficiency . . . literally.
How is Bae not ranked in top 100 prospects???
Where does he play when he is called up?
2B
another lopez bomb! 11 so far this season
My man!
I’d like to see him get on a legit tear, not just plugging along all year.
yep me too. get that avg up to around .275. strikeout rate down to 25% or so
Gorski bomb!!!! He might hit 40 this year
He might end up with a 30/30 season
Went back to watch Tank’s HR. He’s definitely a step back, and looks like he’s even being pitched differently now. All the pitches were outer half, and he took this one oppo taco.
It’s reminiscent of when Polanco was something like 0 for 27 on pitches inside, and it took them 3/4ths a season to tell him to step back, and immediately it paid dividends.
I feel like in college maybe him crowding the plate scared a lot of pitchers into leaving things over the middle instead of just getting beaned in pro ball, just a theory though
Really nice pitching for BRD today. Peralta is an interesting pitcher who just needs to throw more strikes. And Yoelvis Reyes made his full season debut with six up six down.
And Tank went boom, which makes it a good day by itself.
where is Escotto and Mojica? they seemed to have disappeared.
They are around, just working through things away from the boxscores
I wouldn’t want to see the boxscores if I were them, either.
I’m beginning to become very intrigued by the Development List. Giving guys a little break, work on some things, and then letting them get back into it. One game, but appears to have been very efficient for Peralta
Especially if they have revamped the whole development process, I can absolutely see how it could be helpful. If they were just going to have guys take lazy grounders and hit 75 mph BP every single day then i would have a different tune
send martin there
They probably find some guys listen and some don’t. Peralta looks like he listened.
Marcano in the lineup for BRD. He’s one of the few injured guys I want back.
Luis Peralta returning from the development list (aka detention) today.
Underwood about to start rehab.
Peralta gave up a hit and a walk to the first two hitters, but thru three that’s it. No runs, five Ks.
“Detention “ 😂
