He had an impressive second innings in which he picked up three strikeouts on 16 pitches, but he didn’t have any quick innings, throwing more pitches in both the first and third innings. The Pirates have been limiting pitchers if they go twice in the same week, so it appears that his pitch count limited his day. Nick Mears came out for the fourth inning and threw shutout ball. Miguel Yajure allowed one run over 3.2 innings, then Aaron Fletcher lowered his ERA to 1.23 with 1.1 scoreless. Indianapolis got things started early with a three-run homer from Rodolfo Castro, his fifth of the season. In the eighth, Travis Swaggerty hit his fifth homer, a two-run shot. That was more than enough in the 5-3 win. Carter Bins had the only multi-hit game (two singles) and Indianapolis failed to draw a walk.

He moved up a level to Altoona for this Sunday start and had an impressive three-inning scoreless start, allowing just one hit and hitting a batter, while picking up three strikeouts. He threw 36 pitches, with 26 going for strikes. He was likely scheduled to go three innings because he’s still building up and he already pitched earlier this week. Bear Bellomy and Tahnaj Thomas each allowed one run in two innings. JC Flowers tossed two scoreless frames, but the offense was almost non-existent in the 2-1 loss. Matt Gorski accounted for the only run with his 22nd homer of the season. The Curve had just two other hits, both singles. They had two at-bats all game with runners in scoring position. Despite those numbers, Matt Fraizer had a good day in the lead-off spot, with a single and two walks.
