Game Recap:

The Gold team (23-11) resumed their suspended game against the Cubs Red from yesterday and won a blowout, 13-3.  They were down 1-0 in the third inning when the game was stopped, but they scored seven in the sixth to run away with it.  Wesley Zapata and Carlos Tirado each had three hits.  Zapata had a double, while Tirado had a double, triple and walk and scored three times.  Yordany De Los Santos had two doubles and got hit twice.  Isaias Dipre had a single, double and walk, and drove in three runs.  Eddy Rodriguez hit a two-run home run, his third homer of the year, and Jhonson Pena had three hits.  The only player who went hitless, oddly enough, was Axiel Plaz, who dropped to .396.  Starter Andres Silvera gave up a run over two innings.  Victor Cabreja and Alberto Saba each worked two scoreless innings.

The good guys dropped the regularly scheduled game, 3-2.  Pitterson Rosa had a nice start, working four shutout innings while allowing just one hit and no walks.  Patricio Ress threw a scoreless fifth, but came out after the first three batters reached in the sixth.  Two of them scored, one after he left, which tied the game.  In the seventh (scheduled to be the last inning), Jesus Clode gave up two walks and a hit batsman to load the bases, then a sacrifice fly to end the game.  The Pirates had only four hits, although they drew nine walks.  They went 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position.  Samuel Escudero had a double, two walks and a steal.  Gustavo Armas had an RBI double.  Yordany De Los Santos had what I guess could be called a reverse golden sombrero, walking all four times up.  He also stole two bases.  Axiel Plaz somehow got shut down again, going 0-for-4 and stranding seven runners.

Having followed the Pirates fanatically since 1965, Wilbur Miller is one of the fast-dwindling number of fans who’ve actually seen good Pirate teams. He’s even seen Hall-of-Fame Pirates who didn’t get traded mid-career, if you can imagine such a thing. His first in-person game was a 5-4, 11-inning win at Forbes Field over Milwaukee (no, not that one). He’s been writing about the Pirates at various locations online for over 20 years. It has its frustrations, but it’s certainly more cathartic than writing legal stuff. Wilbur is retired and now lives in Bradenton with his wife and three temperamental cats.
