Prospect Watch: Quinn Priester Throws Shutout Ball

Bradenton got underway after a rain delay of well over three hours.  The second game of their doubleheader was postponed.  In the one they played, Po-Yu Chen had a strong start.

Game Recap:

Indianapolis (41-46) lost to Columbus, 4-2.  Starter Zach Matson worked just an inning, getting the side in order.  Noe Toribio gave up two runs over two innings.  Travis MacGregor had control problems in his two innings, walking three and allowing one run.  Cam Vieaux gave up the final run.  Hoy Park produced one of the runs with his third AAA home run and also had a double.  Rodolfo Castro drove in the other with a first-inning single.  Tucupita Marcano and Greg Allen each reached base three times, Marcano on a double and two walks, Allen on a double and two hit batsmen.  Jack Suwinski made his AAA debut, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.  He also committed an error.

Game Recap:

Altoona (44-42) got a 1-0 walkoff win over Richmond.  Quinn Priester worked five and a third innings, allowing just two hits and two walks.  Enmanuel Mejia got the last two outs of the sixth, then Brad Case finished, retiring nine straight batters.  The Curve had seven hits and four walks, but didn’t score until the bottom of the ninth.  Two one-out singles and an intentional walk loaded the bases, then Connor Scott ended the game with a sacrifice fly.  Fabricio Macias scored the winning run and had two hits.  Brendt Citta had a single and double.

Game Recap:

Greensboro (36-48) lost to Brooklyn, 6-2.  Justin Meis lasted only two and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs.  Logan Hofmann gave up a run over three and a third innings and Brayan Roman worked two scoreless innings.  The Hoppers had six hits and struck out 13 times.  Mike Jarvis and Francisco Acuna reached base three times each on a hit and two walks.  Jarvis scored one of the runs and drove in the other.  Sammy Siani stole his 22nd base.

Game Recap:

Bradenton (42-42) got two in the ninth for a walkoff win over Jupiter.  Po-Yu Chen had an outstanding start, throwing six shutout innings on 81 pitches, 54 of them strikes.  He left with a 2-0 lead.  Norkis Marcos got the first run home with his first home run of the year.  Tsung-Che Cheng scored the second after reaching on a double.  Unfortunately, after Mitchell Miller worked a scoreless seventh, Jack Hartman and Yunior Thibo gave away three runs in the eighth.  Hartman got charged with all of them, throwing just one strike while hitting one and walking two.  Thibo then came on to walk three more batters, with two runs scoring on bases-loaded walks and another on a ground out.  In the bottom of the ninth, Jase Bowen led off with his tenth home run of the year to tie the game.  After an out, Wyatt Hendrie singled and Sergio Campana doubled his pinch runner home.  Wilkin Ramos worked a scoreless top of the ninth to get the win.  Hendrie and Campana each had two hits.  Juan Jerez had a double.

Game Recap:

The Black team (15-17) broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the sixth and went on to beat Cleveland Red, 8-2.  Kelvin Diaz had a big day at the plate, reaching base five times.  He had two hits, including his first home run of the year, two walks and a hit batsman.  He gave some of that back by getting picked off twice, but he still scored three times and drove in three.  Ewry Espinal had three hits and Wesley Zapata picked up two, plus two RBIs.  Isaac Paulino and Eybert Escalona each had a double.  The pitching was good throughout.  Starter Diego Chiquillo allowed just one hit and one walk, and fanned five, over three innings.  He gave up the two runs, but both were unearned.  It could have been a lot worse, as the Pirates had six errors.  Greiber Mendez was just as good, fanning six in his three innings, while giving up two hits and a walk.  Hader Blanco threw two scoreless innings and Jarlen De La Paz one.  For the game, the Pirates fanned 15.

Game Recap:

The Gold team (23-9) got only one hit and dropped a 1-0 game to the Cubs Blue.  The pitching was good, as Fares Sanchez allowed just the one run over three innings.  Dermis Ordonez, who’s just 17, worked three scoreless innings, allowing just a hit and a walk.  Carlos Tirado had a single and the team drew four walks, and that was the offense.
