P2Daily: Previewing This Week’s Pirates Minor League Opponents

Published:

We’re in the final full week of minor league baseball with all affiliates done playing except the Indianapolis Indians.

This week should bring in some of it’s own excitement with a “handful of players” to be promoted from Altoona to Indy for the final week and a half.

This week the Indians will take on the Minnesota Twins affiliate St. Paul Saints. Much like the Indians, the Saints have been long out of the race with a near identical record to Indy. It’s likely to be a week of late season promotions for prospects either affiliate wants to get a taste of Triple-A before the season is out.

On the year, the Saints had one of the better offenses to go along with one of the worst pitching staffs. Interestingly enough of five Top 30 prospects on the Saints roster, four of them are pitchers. The Twins do have three of their Top 30 hitters in MLB with Royce Lewis being injured and on the shelf for long term. Baseball America Top 100 prospect Spencer Steer was in Triple-A for the Twins until being dealt as part of a deal at the deadline for Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tyler Mahle.

As it’s the only remaining affiliate left, this week will largely be about prospects getting a taste at a higher level as the season winds down. There will likely be a slew of promotions across the minors that will come after this article posts.

Lets hope all the Curve players promoted hit the ground running in Triple-A as Blake Sabol has since his promotion. Yes, I had to throw in a Blake Sabol plug.
