Pirates Place Ji-Man Choi on Injured List; Recall Tucupita Marcano

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled infielder/outfielder Tucupita Marcano prior to Saturday’s game against the St Louis Cardinals. First baseman Ji-Man Choi was placed on the 10-day Injured List after being scratched from yesterday’s lineup due to ankle discomfort. That move was made retroactive to April 14th.

Choi has hit .125/.125/.344 in nine games this season, connecting on two solo homers for his only RBIs. He has zero walks and 15 strikeouts in 32 plate appearances.

Marcano has been off to a fast start for Indianapolis this year, hitting .422/.458/.689 in 11 games. He played 49 games for the Pirates last year, putting up a .206/.256/.306 slash line.

He has made starts at second base, third base, shortstop and left field this year. He has also played a little bit of right field in his career.
