Merejo signed slightly later than the norm for Latin American prospects. He’s a very small RHP who’s put up very good numbers in the DSL. He’s similar to Isaac Sanchez in that, despite his slight build, he throws hard, currently about 92-93 mph.
2010 Merejo pitched well as a closer in his debut at age 19. 2011 Still serving as his team’s closer, Merejo put up impressive numbers, including a high K rate. 2012 Merejo spent 2012 in the GCL, where he was the primary closer. He had a good K rate and didn’t walk many, but gave up a lot of hits. Left-handed batters hit .357 against him, although the sample size is very small. Merejo has a good arm, but he probably doesn’t have a lot of projection and he’ll be 22 by the time the short season leagues open play in 2013. He could be in the New York-Penn League or the GCL. |
