WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Griffin saw limited time on the mound in his three seasons at Stetson, working mainly as a middle reliever, possibly coming in to face lefties only, judging by the low inning totals compared to games pitched. He has had some control issues, but keeps the ball in the yard, allowing just one homer in 91.1 total innings. He throws in the low 90’s and impressed some scouts in the Cape Cod league last Summer. Stetson tried to turn him into a starter in 2013, but it did not work out. His coach said before the draft that he believed that Griffin would be back for his senior season, even if he was drafted in the middle rounds. As it turned out, Griffin signed right after the draft.
2013 Despite Griffin being drafted out of a four-year college, the Pirates sent him to the GCL. He struck out a lot of hitters and opponents hit only .200 against him, but he had some control problems. Lefties hit .148 against him in a small number of ABs. Griffin could appear at either West Virginia or Jamestown, or possibly both, in 2014. |
