| Diaz was the top pitcher whom the Pirates signed in the 2020-21 international signing period. By that time he’d gotten his fastball up to 92, and he also threw a curve and change. Scouts considered him to have an advanced feel for pitching.
2021 Diaz pitched mostly in relief in his debut and had just a decent season. Opponents batted only .209 against him, but he walked almost as many as he struck out. 2022 Still pitching in relief, Diaz got much better results, mainly thanks to a much lower walk rate. He still didn’t miss many bats. Diaz hasn’t broken out yet, but he’ll be somebody to watch in the FCL in 2023. |
